Bhangazi Horse Safaris, St Lucia South Africa is the sole concessionaire for horse safaris from St Lucia. All horse riding takes place within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa's very first world heritage site (Unesco).
Bhangazi Horse's comprises of 15 beautiful and well looked after horses. All horses are well behaved and this offers entry level horse riding. We have the perfect horse to suit you even novice riders are welcome. All horses are kept as close to a natural environment as possible this includes open air stables and rotating day paddocks.
All of the rides are accompanied by professional lead guides as well as back up guide. This further offers us the option of splitting the groups up into mixed abilities. Riders are given the option to trot and canters are allowed at the discretion of the lead guide.
We welcome anybody over the age of 6 years old (game rides) and 8 years old (beach rides) and under 95 kg.

Overview
1 or 2 Hour Game Rides
Our game rides take us into the southern end of the Eastern shores section of the isimangaliso wetland park.
We ride alongside Zebra, Wildebeest, Warthog, Duiker, Impala and other plains game with the occasional sightings of Rhino, Buffalo and the elusive Leopard.
By being so unobtrusive, we are able to view game from just meters away.
This is the perfect start for a novice, child or game viewing enthusiast. This is a gentle ride with plenty of interest along the way..
1 or 2 Hour Beach Rides
We take the horses down to the waters edge and head either North towards First Rocks or South towards Lake St Lucia.
During the Whale season ( June-Nov) we often see Humpbacks breaching out in the Ocean. From Nov- Feb we search for the tracks of Turtles who have dug their nests in the sand the night before.
The rest of the year we make do with Dolphins playing in the surf, Hippo pods relaxing in the lake, Nile crocodiles sunning themselves or just enjoy the amazing views along the beach, amongst the highest forested sand dunes in Africa.
2,5 Hour Combo Rides
Our combo rides are 2.5 hours long and include both the game reserve (iSimangaliso Wetland Park) and the Beach.
By far the most popular horse trail experience as you get the best of both worlds.
Set your own pace, with a leisurely stroll or an exhilarating fast canter, and enjoy the magic of the most diverse park in Africa.
Beach rides can only take place two hours either side of low tide, which means the times for beach and combo rides do vary daily.
When booking a ride we require the following information:
Each riders body weight as well as your riding experience (beginner, intermediate or advanced) in order for us to choose the right horses for you.Name and contact details should we need to get in contact with you on the day due to adverse weather conditions.
Please note the following:
For the ride, please do wear closed-toe shoes, long pants and we recommend sunscreen lotion.
We provide riding helmets.We always meet 15 minutes before the riding time as we need to complete the indemnity forms before the ride takes place.

By Booking with Bhangazi Horse Safaris, the guest agrees to the following:
• No refunds will be made if persons turn up late for rides. Rides will depart as close to stated departure time as possible.
• Minors are to be accompanied at all times by adults/custodians who will at all times accept responsibility for minors.
• BHANGAZI HORSE SAFARIS reserves the right to cancel any ride should the weather or other circumstances dictate. Refunds will be given in the case BHS cancels the ride.
• Disturbance of wildlife or fellow riders will at no stage be permitted.
• BHANGAZI HORSE SAFARIS are not liable for any damages, losses or injuries that may be suffered by the guest whether occurring before, during or after a ride.
• The wearing of a riding helmet is compulsory
This Park covers a mosaic of land-forms that have created a vast array of biomes to support a very wide variety of animals, plants and birds. There is no better way to experience this magnificent area than on horse back. We have the highest bird count in all of Africa, the southern-most breeding spots for turtles in Africa, Africa's tallest forested dunes, the largest remaining stands of sand forest, the biggest peat beds in the Southern Hemisphere and vast wetlands.... and all of this runs between the enormous St Lucia lake/estuarine system and alongside 220 kilometers of pristine beaches and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, where turtles nest, whales often pass on their way to breed just a little further north in Mozambique and dolphins play in the surf. Bhangazi Horse Safaris caters to riders of all levels from complete novice to the very experienced. All rides are accompanied by a lead guide and back up rider which allows us to split the group if we have mixed abilities within the group. Superb beach and bush ride, lovely horses and staff
There was only my husband and I plus another experienced lady and two guides. Yes, the rides are not cheap but you get what you pay for and more.
The whole place is well run with great modern tack and knowledgeable staff. They are skilled at matching you with the right horse and so helpful.
We were led by Sam who was amazing, clearly loves his work and so knowledgeable about the ecosystem of the area and the animals you come across.
I was nervous initially as I’d ridden a lot in the past but not much recently, and they were great at giving confidence and checking with what you were comfortable to do.
We did a superb beach ride starting with a gentle canter and finished with a full gallop which was thrilling, I really felt like I got my confidence back, thank you!
And in the most beautiful setting, superb beach and finished with the bush part, meeting and learning about zebras and also impala.
Nice to have a mid point water stop and short rest for the horses too.
Great not to feel rushed either and no skimping on time, quite the opposite.
Thoroughly recommend and hope to return.
Amazing experience
During my stay in St. Lucia, I went on a 2.5-hour horseback riding tour, and it was absolutely fantastic! The ride takes you along the beach and through the forest, offering a wonderful variety that makes the experience extra special. Galloping along the sand and riding among the zebras in the forest was truly unforgettable.
My guide, Sifiso, was super kind and incredibly enthusiastic. He made me feel completely at ease. Whether you are an experienced rider or have never been on a horse before, I would recommend this to everyone. The entire ride felt safe, relaxing, and above all, very enjoyable.
I would highly recommend this horseback riding experience to anyone – it’s a perfect activity for both beginners and advanced riders. Definitely one of the highlights of my time in St. Lucia!
